AA command centre

Successful AA fire requires a real-time air situation picture to be maintained at all levels. It must be possible to transfer status data and targets from one system to another without delay, since an aggressor must be repelled before it attacks its targets.

This will be increasingly difficult in the future. The flying properties and all-weather operating potential of aircraft and helicopters are constantly improving, and their range of weapons is increasing. Smart weapons will become more reliable over a longer range. Aircraft and helicopters are difficult to detect because of their small radar profile, and even smaller targets such as missiles and unmanned planes must be detected too.

Finland has kept up with developments quite well. The AA command centres in both fixed major locations and in mobile formations have systems that can meet present and future demands.

johtokeskus
