In 1985, the Finnish War Veterans' Association started to collect a file
of those fallen during the Second World War in Finland (1939-1945). The
association delivered the file to the Military Archives in 1991. Firstly,
the aim was to compile an index of the graves of fallen soldiers. A more
extensive collection of data on soldiers fallen in the war was started at
a later stage. Due to the primary use, the file includes data on
approximately 1,500 soldiers buried in the graveyards and persons who died
later after the Second World War. It is possible that fallen soldiers
whose graves are unknown are not included in the file.
The systematic additions to the file ended on 31 December 1997 as the
funding of the project ended. The file is partly unfinished and includes
unchecked data. The Military Archives are not responsible for the
validity, coverage or applicability of the data regarding the desired
use. If you intend to use unchecked data as a source in scientific
research, it is advisable to get first in touch with the Military
Archives.
Please inform the Military Archives of deficiencies and faults in the file
(see: http://www.sota-arkisto.fi/englanti/). The
corrections you wish to make must
be
proven correct, for instance, with an official certificate.
The service has been moved to the Military Archives
